Important announcement

Today, the Indies World shelter is home to 227 dogs.
It’s a huge number, and above all a huge responsibility.
Over the past few weeks, we have been receiving numerous calls for :
– dog accidents near the shelter
– abandonment in front of the gate or on the wall
– dogs in great distress seen by vets
Saying no is heartbreaking. Every situation touches us deeply.
But to guarantee the well-being, care and attention of the 227 dogs already in our care, we have to make a difficult but necessary decision: we can’t take in any more new dogs for the time being.
This choice is neither a lack of heart, nor a lack of interest.
On the contrary, it’s an act of responsibility towards our current residents.
For people who want to help a dog in trouble, we’ve already shared several posts with :
– contacts for other associations and rescuers on the island
– veterinarian contact details
– concrete ways to act differently
Thank you so much for your understanding, kindness and support in this difficult decision.
We keep going, for them

Today we celebrate the birthday of

The association

Indie's World

Indie’s World is much more than a shelter: it’s hope for stray dogs in Mauritius. Since 2017, we’ve been rescuing, caring for, rehabilitating, neutering and finding loving families for these abandoned souls. With no government subsidies, we rely on the generosity and commitment of our community to offer a second chance to those who need it most.

Together, let’s change their destiny.

Sterilization

In Mauritius, over 300,000 stray dogs* survive in terrible conditions: hunger, disease, mistreatment… A single pair of unsterilized dogs can produce over 4,000 puppies in just four years. The only lasting solution to this suffering is sterilization. By having your dog spayed or neutered, you’re making an active contribution to reducing stray dogs and improving animal welfare.

Together, let’s stop misery before it starts.

The refuge before...

In 2025, we moved from our refuge in Baie du Cap to the one in Surinam. A bigger refuge, with more space and more enclosures. But there are still many improvements to be made.
