Today, the Indies World shelter is home to 227 dogs.
It’s a huge number, and above all a huge responsibility.
Over the past few weeks, we have been receiving numerous calls for :
– dog accidents near the shelter
– abandonment in front of the gate or on the wall
– dogs in great distress seen by vets
Saying no is heartbreaking. Every situation touches us deeply.
But to guarantee the well-being, care and attention of the 227 dogs already in our care, we have to make a difficult but necessary decision: we can’t take in any more new dogs for the time being.
This choice is neither a lack of heart, nor a lack of interest.
On the contrary, it’s an act of responsibility towards our current residents.
For people who want to help a dog in trouble, we’ve already shared several posts with :
– contacts for other associations and rescuers on the island
– veterinarian contact details
– concrete ways to act differently
